Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan-KVS RO Jammu Schools

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan or KVS was established in the year 1963. The literal translation for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is ‘central school organisation’. At December 15th, 1963, the institution commenced with the name, ‘central schools’. The name later changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The main objective of this chain of educational institutions is to educate the students that come from families of the Indian Defence Services. They are often posted in different locations all over India, some of which are in remote locations. This establishes quality education regardless of the location and ensures the children of government employees do not face disadvantages in the education field. These schools have been operating for over 50 years. These series of government schools are under the support of the MRHD or Ministry of Human Resource Development. As of current records, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has a sum of 1225 schools in India and three abroad. The schools present outside the geographical frontiers are located in Kathmandu, Moscow and Tehran. The purpose of these schools out of India is to provide an Indian based education for the children of Indian embassy staff and other expatriate employees of the Government of India. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is one of the most extended school chains in the world.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS) Locations:

The headquarters of this line of schools is located in Delhi. The Minister in Charge of Human Resource Development is always the chairman of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The current commissioner is Mr.S.K.Mall, IAS. Each branch of KVS has an assigned Head Master\Mistress and a Vice Principal. There are many committees present for the holistic development of the institution and the students. The VMC(Vidyalaya Management Committee) is the head of all these committees. There are other commissioners that help accompany the Commissioner in educational related decisions. The administration body is based on the levels of authority.

Education Service by  Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS)

All the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan institutions are affiliated to CBSE or Central Board of  Secondary Education. They all follow the same syllabus for minimising educational complications for the children of the government employees who are associated with transfers. Hindi and English are compulsory in all branches. There are standard bilingual textbooks and instructions (Hindi and English) in all the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools. Sanskrit is a mandatory language taught from 6th grade to the 8th grade. There are usually two batches, a morning batch and the afternoon batch. The morning batch is from 6:45 am to 12:20 pm in the summer and from 7.30 am to 1:00 pm in the winter. The afternoon batch is from 12:45 pm to 5:45 pm in the summer and 1:00 pm to 5:pm in the winter. These timings have small changes according to the branch. Each class has a duration of 40 minutes, and there is a 15-minute break in the middle. There is also an assembly every morning. The approximate strength of each class is around 40 students. The standard of teaching is known to be
high and efficient.

 KVS School Extracurricular activities

In Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, sports are given equal importance as education. They have a few periods of sports in a week. They have a selection between football, basketball, throwball, hockey, volleyball, kho‐kno, skating, badminton, lawn tennis, skipping and cricket. Students have to go for the opted activity throughout the year during the games period. They conduct various inter‐house sports events and inter‐school sports events. They take place in major sports competitions like SGFI or School Games Federation India tournaments, even host it sometimes. Along with sports, they have many clubs, competitions and events taking place throughout the
academic year. Clubs like eco club, UNESCO club, adventure club, astronomy club etc are present in KV schools.

KVS School Admission and fees:

For the gaining admission into Kendriya Vidyalaya schools (1st grade) , one has to fill the admission forms and submit it in the admission site ( ), there is also an app in which is this process could be done. The eligibility, selection list and reservation changes every year in KV. In the application process, they can choose three favourable branches of Kendriya Vidyalayas in India.

The following categories are exempted from paying tuition fees:

  • Girl students from I‐XII
  • SC/ST students
  • Children of KVS employees
  • Children of officers in the armed forces whom were killed or disabled(before 1999)
